One of my BLRW hens had a poopy butt today, so I cleaned her up and discovered she was trying to push, but nothing was coming out. After feeling her rear, I realized she had an egg stuck in her. We soaked, lubricated with Vaseline, and got the egg out, but it was followed by a couple of big blood clots and now her behind is looking a little bruised inside. Is this normal for this problem, and do I have to worry about the blood? She's still trying to push a little, but I'm thinking it's because she couldn't really poop and she's still trying to pass the solids.

there might be an additional egg backed up that needs to come out... keep an eye on her

That was my thought, too. I did notice when she was still trying to go that it looked like she had some poop that was trying to come out. I figured that since she was a bit swollen she still might be feeling the urge even though there was nothing there. I didn't feel another egg, but if there is one, it may be further back in her system than I can feel. She did seem to feel much better after the egg came out, though. She didn't want to stick around for me to blowdry her butt, so I put her back out with the others. I'm glad it's still warm here! I'm about to go out and do another check on her before bed.
