I'm still new at this
.........and I have been getting a lot of advice which I'm not sure is right from friends and neighbors. One friend told me that my chickens won't lay the first year and if I do get one egg around Sept.- Oct. months. Then I have a neighbor who is also new at BYC raising plus she also decided to get ducks as well (good for her). I was so excited my girls gave me my first egg and I told her about it and I asked her if it would be good to eat? She told me her chickens have been laying but they have been tossing away the eggs since they are not ready. I haven't toss my eggs and I have 5 eggs so far kept in room temperature in a egg carton, haven't wash them, pretty much clean. I don't have a rooster, I live in City limits and you can have one. Someone told me I need use the candle method, but I don't have an incubator not raising baby chicks.........not yet.
BIG QUESTION are my eggs safe to eat or should I toss them out like my neighbor did?
It's only one of three of my chicken. I have two New Hampshire Reds and I think the other one is a Barneveld, however its one of my NHR laying an egg.
This is the first July 13 my boyfriend found the egg.
