eggs and no eggs?

I now have 2 brooders? I think. 1 chicken ha had 7 eggs sitting , tbe other on sits all day on no eggs. She is still there today. no eggs. The other had 7 eggs, 4 days ago/ She is missing 3 eggs one day at a time. Where did th eggs go? Not in the coop anywhere. Not in the pen anywhere. Noe egg shells . My question is did other chickens eat them to eat the shells for calcium/ I have 10 chickens almost laying in another week or two. the chicken with 0 eggs still has no eggs, but she was laying 1 week earlier every day. now 0 eggs.???

Chickens will eat eggs, especially if they get broken or if the hens are craving protein or calcium. Otherwise snakes and rats will eat eggs, and other critters will too if they can get in your coop. I would break all the hens you aren't using to hatch eggs as they are disruptive, and it's taxing for them to set.

Is it ok not to break the hen yet ,I am hopeing to use her for brooding as soon as the others lay some eggs, I don't have snakes ,but may have a rat, I can't catch.lol

As long as she hasn't been sitting too long. They will eventually get depleted and break themselves, but it usually takes more than 5 weeks.
