we have more eggs than we know what to do with. (More eggs than friends can take). I am waiting on my candling course which is a pain in the butt and only offered in Sep. and I hate waste. I have heard and read in here that you can feed them back to the flock for added nutrients. Two points I’d like clarification on.
1. Raw encourages chickens to eat the eggs after laying.
2. Cooked destroys the protein.

Would love some direction.

i have read to cook them so that the smell changes and it discourages egg eating. i am a newbie, so i don't know from experience. I do feed my ladies an egg as a treat/extra protein in the heat. I boil them, and crunch the egg shell up so that it is not recognizable, smash the egg and add garlic and kelp powder for extra healthy nutrients. and it turns out my dog LOVES hard boiled eggs too! i can't wait to see the other point of views.
have a great day!!!

Cracked eggs in the nest will do more to encourage egg eating than feeding eggs back to the chickens. You can scramble them in a bowl, shell and all. And either feed back raw or cooked. I usually give mine a mash of feed and depending on day, supplements. When I have egg it goes into the mash, raw.

You can also crack the eggs into a baggie and freeze them for use when the ladies are molting and not laying as many eggs. I add a touch of salt and scramble them before freezing. I like to use them for baking around the holidays because the egg laying slows down around then and we usually have company to help eat up any fresh ones that we have.

Sometimes I scramble them to feed but usually I boil up a big pot of hard boiled eggs. Then I chop them up. I don't think they make the connection to what comes from the cloaca.

I’ve heard of people boiling them and mashing them up a bit shells and all , it is very good protein for them .

I personally gave a few dozen to my vets, the police and friends . You could gain a few customers this way

If you have a lot of extra eggs you could donate them to the local food bank. Otherwise cook them up before you feed them back to the birds.
