Hi, we have four Rhode Island Reds, one of the chickens (known here as the 'mean' chicken) has begun laying eggs that are not the usually brown but are like a beige color now... that has happened over the last month or so... is she not getting the right nutrients? Ideas? Thanks!

Time and the start of a new egg laying season will improve the color of your "Mean" RIRs' egg shell color to whatever degree eggshell color has on egg quality. Which as far as I can find is Zero, Nada. oldhenlikesdogs is on the money. In other words your hens are running out or running low on the minerals needed to coat the eggshells. Only time will replenish these minerals regardless of what some huckster tries to tell you.

I have 3 EE's that lay olive colored eggs but....one day there was a blue egg! They have yet to lay another blue one but it was a very pretty egg! I have no explanation for why a blue one appeared. No change in their diet so it must be something internal. Wish I knew why because would be nice to get more blue ones.

As others have stated, egg color tends to lighten as a hen's laying cycle progresses. Eventually they take a break from laying, 'replenish their resources', and resume laying darker shelled eggs. It's perfectly normal.

Olive or green eggs are blue shells covered with brown coating.
Sometimes the coating is lighter or absent,
thus you see the blue shell untinted with brown coating.
