Eggs from a previously medicated chook

One of my hens was attacked by my pup over Easter. After some expensive X-rays, stitches and lots of pain relief medication she is okay however we are not allowed to eat her eggs for six months according to the vet does anyone know if this has any proven danger or if this is just simply a precaution given to us by the vet? I'm having a lot of trouble throwing her eggs away

6 months is way overkill imo. We wait one month. Even three weeks is probably safe, depending on what meds she was on.
Anyway, we've had chooks for years, always waited one month max, and never had any issues, as far as i know. Your vet is just practicing cya.
I know what you mean, we had to treat our flock with antibiotics a few weeks ago, it's making me sick not being able to use all those nice eggs! We take ours out in the woods, or far away from the barn; critters can use em and also the crows and jays, and we like having the crows and jays around, they help to keep the flock safe from predators.

Six months is too long unless there's someone in your family that may have a reaction to whatever meds is being given. I agree with Chicknmania, a month is good enough.

my hens were on antibiotics not to long ago we are waiting 21 days and we cook and feed the eggs to the dogs and their coats look lovely .my dogs arent on any meds so I figured the trace amounts of antibiotics in the eggs wouldnt hurt em, I like you just cant seem to trow em away . Oh and our boxer mix had some hot spots and now they are gone ! I wash dry and grind up the shells and put them in my mealworm bedding and in the compost

Thanks a lot guys I was seriously considering eating them anyway, even if they made me sick haha. Chooks have turned me fussy, I don't really like eating shop bought eggs anymore.
