This is my first time using an incubator and only 5 of the eggs show veins with a couple more questionable since they are brown eggs. I'm at Day 4 but from everything I've read you should still be able to see the veins this early. I did see veins in the 5 that I marked as still viable.

So what should I do with the ones that are no longer viable? Do I take them out and just keep the 8 or so that are viable or questionable? Or do I wait a little longer? If I take the bad ones out, do I put the good ones right next to each other in the middle or spread them out?

Argh!!! This is so hard!!!

I suggest you keep them in. When you have questionables (spelling)

just keep them and wait. It won't hurt anything to keep your eggs semi close. You don't want to crowd them, touching each other. Do you have a still air, or forced? Day 5 really is early. It's hard isn't it? I just put some eggs in my bator yesterday, and I can hardly wait to candle...and I've done this a few times. Still fun to see the first veins, then movement. Some you can't see through, but as time goes on, you will notice that the egg is getting heavier..at least I can feel that..the chick is growing! Time will tell!

I would wait a little longer. Maybe candle again on day eight or ten. Give the ones a sniff test when you do check them again. On my last batch I pulled one on day 14. It was scrambled on the inside and never started but didn't stink or seem under pressure when I cracked it to take a look. I'm new to incubating also and wouldn't toss an egg that doesn't stink if it is questionable.

I usually do the sniff test at lockdown, but I don't toss anything other than complete clears or blood rings. You will be surprised on the "duds" that hatch into perfect chicks!

Wait until day 10 and try again. I checked my duck eggs at day 4 and had 1 I was pretty sure was clear and 4 more that I saw only minimal veining in. I candled againg tonight and the one egg was clear, but all the rest are swimming along. As long as none of them are weepy or smelly it won't hurt to wait another week to be sure.

This is my first time with BCM eggs and boy is that a chore.
I had 4 that looked like nothing happening at 7 days and since I was too excited to wait I checked again a couple days later and it may be wishfull thinking , but I'm sure I think I saw movement. I don't even bother checking at 4 days. It might be so little going on you might miss it. I'd leave them.
