eggs in the morning

does anyone know how i can get my hens to lay in the night so i can pick up eggs in the morning or is it just up to the hen wheather when she wants to lay

Hens are generally asleep when it's dark. They are also usually on the roost then. If they lay in the dark the eggs will likely break when they hit the ground.

! Pleased to have you here! My chickens seem to begin laying mid to late morning and that seems to stretch til late afternoon before they've all layed. So, I'm not sure how to prompt them to lay over night. You could add light to their coop but I'm still not sure they wouldn't just continue to lay after natural sunrise and throughout the day. Why do you need to get eggs in the a.m.?
 
it is my understanding that hens won't lay at night. i have read that they lay on a 25 hour cycle, adjusted to only lay during the day. i'm not sure how they figured that out, but i have seen it in more than one source. to the best of my knowledge there is nothing you can do to make a hen lay at any particular time.
