eggs in winter?

My husband said chickens quit laying in the winter? Is that true or do they just slow down. Is there any way to encourage egg laying in the winter. Thanks.

My girlies laid all winter BUT I put a heat lamp in there and that made all the difference. In previous years we did not get eggs in the winter.

If you put a light in the coop to extend "daylight" hours they will lay more.
