I placed six eggs under my broody hen. They are supposed to hatch next Monday but I noticed 3 eggs were gone. I found one near the coop door and the remains of another elsewhere in the coop. There are lizards in my coop but could they have gotten the eggs or could it have been a rat? How do I prevent the lizards or rats or whatever they are from stealing the remaining eggs. The hen is unharmed.

When I was young I had a brooding hen. The day she hatched them a black snake came and got several of them. He was curled all around that momma hen and she was pecking him for all she was worth..but she didn't leave the nest. So it's possible a snake came and got the eggs right out from under her :-(
