Today I went out to gather eggs from my two flocks and I found that my Rhode Island Red hen has layed her egg on the ground in the run instead of in the egg box. Is this normal?? and what can I do to try to keep it from happening. I know for a fact that I havent given the two hens enough room in the run and I am doing an expansion on the pen tomorrow or Saturday. Could this have anything to do with it?

Sometimes you'll get eggs on the floor.
Won't happen often, but it does happen.
If it's a habit (like you're seeing them there every day), then I'd pick them up each day and place them in one of the nests, so you'll have about 3-4 eggs in there.
I found an egg one day on the grass as if the egg just fell out of the hen while walking from the coop to the barn.

Well its day two for my girl to lay her egg on the ground and break it. She hasnt eaten it either time so im assuming she doestn have a taste for eggs. Im moving her into another run tomorrow with more room. This is the run she was in when she was laying in the nesting box like shes supposed to lol. Maybe the other hens will remind her where to lay!!!
