Hi there, I have several eggs that started to pip and cry today around noon time, it is now 2:10 AM and I haven't looked at them again under their mother but I will be taking them away after hatching to hand raise them. I do have a question though, how long does it take them to completely pip out? She chose to lay them in the highest nesting box I have which is 3 + feet from the ground so I would like to take them away as soon as the hatch to avoid a fall.

They will be going in a large container with a heating pad on one side with a cover and the other uncovered so they can escape the heat. Food and water readily available.

Thank you!!
PS. they are Serama's if that makes any difference.

Have they started zipping the shells open yet? Chicks can take up to 24 hours to hatch from pip to finish. I usually wait a few hours (12+) and if there's no progress and the chick gets unhappy I'll help by opening the shell a bit. But do be careful if you decide to do that. Often chicks pip well before they absorbed the yolk sac, so if you help make sure the yolk is absorbed and there is no blood. If you see blood replace the egg under the hen and wait an hour or 2 before continuing.

It looked as if some started zipping a little around 8:00 PM, I'm not sure if I should go check on them or not this late/early it is really humid out(I live in georgia) and it is 3:15 am, I just don't want to lose any if they get exhausted as the hen's shells seem really thick.
