I have been raising hens for eggs for almost 4 years. I have Rhodes Island Reds, Buff Orphington, Gold Sex Link, Barred Rock and Americauna. My older group will turn 4 yrs old in October and the younger ones are just over a year old. I ran across Backyard Chickens on Facebook. I have enjoyed reading the different threads on a variety of subjects. One of my hens has started having issues with a small hole in the shell, it's not hard enough to be safe to eat, so I don't eat them. Was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this same issue and if so what causes it?
It’s an awesome site and I hope you enjoy your time here
Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative about poultry! Looks to me the chicken pecked a hole in it. She definitely didn't lay an egg with a perfectly formed hole like that. You might have to try and break to habit if she gets as far as egg eating. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
We are glad you joined our flock!
