I have a hen that occasionally lays a speckled egg, very small pepper sized specks. I can wash them off withe a damp cloth and it is reddish brown. blood? is this normal or something to worry about? I have 11 hens and can rule out 5, the brahmas lay a darker, larger brown and the EE. my others are sussex and orpingtons.

It's very normal. I'm amazed at the variety that I get when compared to the "perfect" store eggs-----mine taste better though no matter how goofy they look.

thank you! I think they taste better too. My daughter as problems eating eggs but says her stomach doesn't bother her when she eats my eggs
