I'm also for retesting everyone on a 5-10 year cycle. Driving is a huge responsibility, and I see so many stupid preventable accidents caused by poor judgement or lack of knowledge. I've seen people back up on roundabouts, make left turns from the right hand lane, I've seen people driving the wrong way on divided roads, texting, and doing everything from eating to changing clothes while driving. If these people had some kind of reminder every five years that driving is a priviledge, maybe they would appreciate it more and pay more attention.
Bad driving certainly isn't limited to the elderly.
I agree...for EVERYONE.
Most rural areas don't have programs to take the elderly where they need or want to go. Grandpa is 99 and still drives everywhere (during the day, not after dark). His truck is a stick shift with a clutch that I have a hard time pushing down...lol. I wouldn't drive anywhere with grandpa; his driving scares me to death. But it's not all his age; his driving scared me to death when I was a kid...and he was only 60 or so back then. I think he's just always been a rather unobservent driver. Actually, most of the folks that I notice doing really stupid stuff on the road aren't that old. So EVERYONE should be tested periodically.
