Hello,

I have a 3 1/2 plus year old male courtnix who has lost his 3 ladies in the last 6 weeks.
He calls a lot and I’m sure he’s very lonely. However, I think due to age, his legs aren’t great. Over the last year he often stumbles and has trouble standing. He can’t climb over the smallest things and even gets caught in hay. He also spends a lot of time sleeping or with his eyes shut.
Should I get him some more ladies or is he too old? I hate to see him alone and don’t want him to be lonely in his later years.
Thank you

Are you planning on continuing to keep quail? If so, get some ladies. He probably won't need five dues to his age. The girls will have no trouble living without a male when he passes. How long that will be? Who knows? It could be a few weeks, it might be another year or two.

Ideally I wasn’t planning on continuing to keep quail. There’s a lot of rats were I live and although they have a large cage/ run I hate the fact they can’t be out free ranging that often. He was one of our original quail, but we have been through a lot of ladies. My vet says they are hard to keep and I find it very sad when they pass.
However I want him to have a happy end to his life whenever that may be so I would keep going with them.

Thank you for your help. I think I’ll get him some girls and when his time comes see who is left. I’m sure I’ll keep them as I get so attached to them. This may go on forever
