well, we have an electric fence up, it's just not hot yet b/c I ordered the wrong kind of charger. The fence is working to keep our chickens in (for the most part--some are still able to squeeze through the squares somehow!). Well, the solar charger is ordered and on its way but in the meantime, yesterday, right in the middle of the day, we spotted a large fox creeping across the field towards our chickens. Luckily, my son spotted him and I ran pell mell across the gravel driveway, barefoot (ouch!), in order to scare him away. He disappeared into the woods but for the rest of the day we kept our eyes peeled.
My question is, will the electric fence be enough to keep out a rather large fox? I'm not worried about the coop itself, it's predator proof but it's during the day when they are out in their yard that I'm worried.

Foxes tend to tunnel under fences, so an electric wire down low would be the way to go. You might have problems with weeds shorting out the wire but if the charger is powerful enough I think you should be OK.

Yes run the elec fence about 3 to 4 inches away from the fence and about 2 to 3 inches above the ground, the weeds should not short it out, weeds don't short mine out, I live in the middle of nowhere and have had no problem with predators, and they are alone all day, hope that helps
