electric hen or heatlamp????????

Hi i was just wondering which is better for brooding chicks. An electric hen or a heat lamp?

I'm not sure what an electric hen is. I use a heat lamp in the brooder...I have a dimmer switch on the lamp so I can control the temperature easier.

An electric hen is a plate that heats up and the chicks sit underneath it? it uses alot less electrcity.
