Both electric smooth wire and e-twine, and tape all have some problems controling smaller critters, critters that can reach a neck through, critters with thick coats. The latter two once startled can tear out a good section of fence as they try to leave quickly.
The net sold at tractor supply and most feed stores is very wide offering from our experience more snare problems than the premier fence we use.
So far we're using it for penning, permanent near the coop, and transportable for grazing areas, eventually tractor type pens.
Our perimeter is e-twine. I don't like it nearly as much and we do have a small critter problem left from using it.
Skunks, weasels, small strays and foxes will scoot under unless you use low off set wires on both sides. Bumping up the cost as you increase the number of lines you're running.
I find the netting functional, easy and safe. I like being able to pen off any area and know some creepy weasel isn't laughing at a strand four or six inches off the ground.
They're highly visible to people and animals, wmooth wire fence often isn't. I happen to think they rock. No, it isn't cheap but folks I know have used those nets for eight years. It pays in the end.
Cheap at first isn't always the deal it seems.
