Has anyone used this stuff? How predator proof is it? Hawks aren't a problem since most of the run area is under a giant beech tree. I am concerned about the chickens flying out, however. Any suggestions?

What breed of chicken do you have?

Most of the time if they have plenty of food the chickens should stay in the fence.

I wouldn't use it as a permament fence. It is more to keep free range chickens from free ranging too far away from their portable coop etc.

If you are looking to build a run. I would use field fencing and chicken wire most of the time that stuff is tall enough to hold them in. But putting a light weight plastic netting on top isn't a bad idea and is pretty cheap.

There's some good advice there on sources, pros and cons, what you need to do if you're using electronet, etc.

Be aware it has to be mowed under, frequently, to keep grass from getting too tall and shorting the fence out, and in order to mow it you have to move the fenceline a bit. Not too much trouble but you wanna be aware it is necessary. No, it does not keep birds from flying out if they really WANT to, nor does it protect vs hawks.

I have 7 different breeds right now

, some can fly and some are pitiful when they try. I think I might go for a combo. Some of the run can be permanent, but some of it I'd like to move to give them access to different goat pens. It sounds like the netting would be good for making temporary corridors. Everybody's got to do some work around here even if it's just eating bugs. They'd only be in the permanent part of the run overnight or when I know I'll be gone all day. How much room should I leave per chicken? The coop is made to give them 3 sq. ft. each at full capacity, which I haven't yet reached.
