elevated coop with wire floor, what to feed food scraps in?

My coop is an elevated hutch with a wire mesh floor and I'm wondering what you all might suggest as a platform for feeding scraps?

I've tried a bowl, they knock it over. I've tried a plate, they get in it and scratch, thereby knocking scraps to the dirt 3 feet below.

Also, do you all chop the scraps up or let them peck at it to break them up? Is it worthwhile to sprinkle grit on the scraps? My pullets are out in the backyard everyday for most of the day foraging so I haven't done anything about grit yet.

See if you can find a large suet cage at your feed store. It works for larger, solid treats, but not for things like rice or pasta...
