Greetings! I have had my backyard flock of 11 hens for about four months; 4 Easter Eggers, 3 Welsummers, and one each of Salmon Favorelle, Barred Rock, Silver Brahma, and Buff Orpington. We are enjoying them, learning a lot, and appreciate all the eggs! Being raised a city girl, I have no experience with farm animals, but have been wanting hens for years. My husband's experience with chickens as a child gave him no fond memories, but our charmers have won his heart. They are way cool, and a great addition to our small town home.

I love the breeds you keep! I also keep buff orps and EEs. They are such affectionate and sweet breeds!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm glad your hens won your husband's heart. I've raised Buff Orpingtons for years, and they are such friendly and gentle birds that I would think they could win anyone's heart. Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorites. She loves their colored eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can.
