Hey everyone, I've been lurking this site and gathering info for a while now but figured it was time to join. We got our first 3 hens about 18 months ago. Then I was proven wrong and now know chicken math is indeed a real thing.
9 months ago we were lifted 3 chicks (that turned out to be bantam breed I believe) from a friend.
Just this week we rescued 23 chickens (5 roos) all with Scaly leg mites.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

That's awesome that you rescue chickens. You have a lot of pretty roosters there though! Do you know how to treat SLM? We've used Vaseline the first time, repeat every three days for a total of doing it three times. Now we do Ivermectin Pour On, just a drop or two on their necks, repeat in 10 days.

Thanks. And i wasnt really planning on it but it happened.
I considered trying the Vaseline but with that many and the severity of it I was worried 1. That we'd miss some and end up in a long cycle and 2. The the Vaseline would cause some to slip and get hurt since some of their feet are pretty bad.
So we decided to go with ivermectin. Working on collecting a small stash of eggs then I'm going to give them the first does next week.

We went in the coop at night and grabbed each chicken and slathered their feet and legs with the Vaseline. By morning, it's all absorbed in, plus, these are silkies so they roost on top of the nest boxes and couldn't slip off there. But then we wound up with a lot more of them, so when they got them again, Ivermectin just seemed so much faster and easier, and it was.
