Hi everyone,

Really needing some insight here. I have a 4 week old Buff Orp that I noticed was very lethargic Friday afternoon. I immediately separated her from the brooder and brought her inside. I didn't think she was going to make it, she was very limp - couldn't walk, move or even lift her head. Her right eye was closed a lot too, even when the left was open (making me think paralysis?). She made it thru Friday night and Saturday afternoon I finally got some water in her and she started to perk up. Then I added some brown sugar to her water and she seemed much perkier, but still didn't move much. Now it's Sunday afternoon and shes eating like crazy, drinking, chirping, walking and even flew out of her sick box today to be closer to me. No idea what's going on.
Once I saw she was getting stronger, I started paying attention to her poo and noticed since I've brought her in, she has fairly runny poo that is white and a dark emerald green color. What does this mean? She's getting stronger and acting normal but she still has this green poo. She has access only to chick start and water in her brooder, no other foods etc. please help!

Sounds like heat stroke. I nursed a chicken through this last summer. If she is eating and drinking and perking up that is half the battle. Keep the temperature constant and at acceptable levels. Continue with the water plus electrolytes and brown sugar if that encourages drinking and as long as she keeps eating that is great. I had to bathe my chicken to keep the body temperature down and also she kept collapsing into her yogurt. The chicks need extra protein to recuperate from heat stroke so yogurt with fresh fruit worked well. You can also search for heat stroke in chickens which is where I learned what to do.

Thank you! She's still eating & drinking lots and visibly getting stronger. She hadn't gone to the bathroom for a long time so I was getting worried but when she did, it was huge (sorry) but more brown now..so hoping that means she's getting passed this! She's been separated for 2 days so I brought another Orp in and I think that helped too. Thanks so much!
