Emerald Isle Back (Yard) Garden Chicken

Hi All,

My name is Orla and I got a Coop and 4 hens for my forthiet birthday, how sad is that and even sadder when I nearly started crying I was so happy!!! First egg today!! Must be doing something right. Gave them sultanas yesterday and they went nuts for them!!

Nothing is wrong with being 40. It is a fine and dandy age. Enjoy it with the girls!

Hey All,

Yes as in Ireland, and kind of yes to the raisins they're larger than raisins (I think they are dried green grapes)! I must say I do spoil them! I have named them all and they all have very different personalities Rose, Ruby, Red and Dearg (Dearg is the Irish word for Red) all named as to the depth of the mix of white and red feathers! I got them back in mid November and was told they'd lay in about 2 to 3 weeks but then we were hit by very cold weather, so no eggs until today

!! It was Dearg who laid it ... I was just putting out a mid morning snack of left over oatmeal (porridge we call it here) and I heard what was I thought one of them being strangled, until I looked up at the coop and there she was shouting like mad and looking from me to the coop and back again ... I'm probably mad but I sware she was saying "hey Mum look what I've just done" ... she got a treat of a yougurt after that!!!

Well it's late here so I'm off to bed!!!
