Is there anything that can be done to save this egg? There is a chicken inside. I did not see if it is moving, I didn't want to move it too much.

Hi as110, I'm looking at the cracked egg & I'm wondering if there is a viable chick inside. I would think with that large of a pip/crack that something would be oozing out of it unless the chick is fully formed & ready to hatch. Just had a broody momma hatch a chick on day 19 a couple of days ago. I would expect to see some red veins or something with that size of pip/crack if the chick was not ready to hatch yet. Are you sure the chick isn't the one that created the pip/crack? Did you hear any chirping coming from the egg? The membrane looks a little on the dry side. Is it possible that the chick tried to hatch, but died in shell instead? If it was me I would carefully pick up the egg & examine it closer. Look to see if there is a pip through the membrane & if you can see the chick inside. Is it moving, peeping or do you see any blood? If you don't see any red veins in the membrane the chick should be close to zipping if it is alive. Best of luck with your egg, I hope you will look & find yourself with a fuzzy new baby.View attachment 1381551 I found a cracked egg under the broody when I checked under her this evening. There was a broken bad egg and I needed to clean up the nest and the remaining eggs. This is the end of day 19.

I would dab a little warm water on the membrane. It will make it transparent where you may be able to see if there are still veins that need to recede. Unless the chick is resting & not moving, which they will do after a external pip (it's a lot of work getting to that part) you should be able to see the membrane pip & the beak of the chick below. Can you see it breathing? If the membrane isn’t pierced, I think it’ll be ok if it doesn’t get shrink wrapped.
I've also used triple antibiotic ointment to keep a membrane moist.Put some coconut oil over the crack to keep the membrane from shrink wrapping.

Yes she is a first timer and all the eggs got dirty. This is the third time I had to clean the eggs. The first time she pooped on the eggs on day 5. The second time one egg broke on day 9 but it didn't stink. This one today was stinky though. Bleh. I still am naseous lol.as110, is this a first time momma? If so, sometimes they can freak out when a chick starts hatching & accidentally break eggs. Was the rotten egg busted & leaking on the other eggs? With a busted rotten egg you can run the risk of bacteria getting into the other eggs causing Mushy Chick Disease. I hope this is not the case.that all is well with the chick.
