I was able to do some quick research and found the answer. OMG! What a confusing mess!
I am really glad though someone on here had a simple explanation.
We recently lost a chicken. Devastated. We presumed egg bound.
She was but there was more to it.
We had incorporated food grade damacus to their enclosure, coop and food. Lately, it has been difficult keeping it down in the enclosure as we have had much rain.
It is spring. Coccidia.
It took one chicken and we now have another fighting for her life. I am devastated. I thought I was doing everything right in the prevention. Apparently not. I need to address the most immediate danger.
I have my treatment. The flock will receive the recommended dose. The one showing symptoms though, is my immediate concern.
Would giving her a stronger initial dose be beneficial for her?
If so, what would the recommended dose be.
She is just a little over 1 year.
The chickens never had bloody pooh.
The symptoms in the first chicken was lethargic, weak cone, lack of interest in eating.
This second chicken is lathargic. She is currently at the vet. Apparently, the shell of one of her eggs is underdeveloped making it difficult for her to push it out.
I am concerned that her symptoms have made her so weak she can't push, and not eating has weakened the shell production.
She needs help fast!
