Hello, all! I found one of my escapee hens trying to eat a baby bird. It doesn't seem hurt (she only had its leg, and I appear to have caught her early.) I do not know what kind it is, only that it looks almost old enough to be on its own, but not yet. It's hungry, and I have no idea where the parents are, as I've heard or seen nothing of them. What can I feed it? I have chick feed and nutri-drench on hand, but I have no clue.

Leave the baby bird alone so the parents can find it to feed it. I will sometimes place them outside my fence just so my cats and dogs won’t get to them. It is hard to know if it fell or was knocked out of its nest. Some may need help for a day or two, and then fly off. Some may be sickly and won’t survive. But it is best for them if the parents take care of them, and they should see it or hear it.

Ok. I will go back out and check on it. I just hate to think of Patra getting it again before it learns to fly. She's my one hen who I cannot catch. I thought if I fed it something it might have more of a chance.
