Evening all, I have this little duckling that I am desperate to help. His mum broke his egg on Monday, which left him compromised. He has since hatched to the point he is out, just has his umbilical cord and a little bit of shell still attached. Dried out a lot now. He can not move around like a normal duckling, he stays on his side, and just pushes along. He has opened his eyes today for the first time. I tried to get him in a better position and offer him some water, he tried to drink it, as normal duck would but it was coming out of his nostrils. His siblings are hatching, with 6 healthy ones here. Just to comfirm, i havent offered any more water until i know whether it is safe. Thank you so much in advance

Poor baby. Sometimes it's normal for water to come from ducks' beaks when they're drinking. It cleans their nostrils. But It could also be a respiratory issue. Good luck

Ducklings that were assisted early will take longer to be mobile. An assisted hatched duckling also will most likely not eat or drink for at least 24hours after their umbilical cord has completely absorbed. Sometimes I have seen it take almost 48 hours after. Wait at least 12-24 hours after the umbilical cord has fully absorbed to give it any food or water. Do not try to force it to drink before then because there is a good chance you could cause it to aspirate. I would highly recommend dosing it with poultry cell. I take a 3cc syringe and put just a single drop on the edge of the inside of their bill. If they are drinking by then you can also dose in the water. This duckling may take a few days for it to be mobile like the others. I have seen it take up to three days after the umbilical cord has absorbed along with dosing with poultry cell before some are mobile.

First of all put the duckling on a soft cloth or paper towels so it doesn't drag itself and injure anything remaining on the belly. it's been through some trauma so it takes longer for them to recover If you want to offer water try using a dropper or small syringe and just putting drips along side the bill, do you have poultry cell or nutri drench both can be given straight and you can do it along side the bill too and hopefully it will drink some.
@New duck mommy 2021
@HollowOfWisps both these members hatch more than me
