Hi Everyone,

I found this website by browsing for some help regarding a chick that was pecked. But right now there is a more pressing concern. This other chick was hatched about a day or two ago and is very ill. I have attached a picture of the condition currently. And advice on how to take care of the chick would be appreciated. I fed him some water.
The chick is very weak but when i feed it water through a cotton swab, he reacts to the water and drinks it.

Oh poor little thing... I'm a newbie so I don't know what to do either apart from keep it drinking and warm... Is that poop all over it? Is it on medicated feed? post as much info as possible so peeps can help... good luck!

I kept digging and I came to the conclusion that it is an unabsorbed egg sac. I believe the thing that is covering the sac is dried dirt and fur, I will try again and wipe him down but he is so weak, I don't want to keep touching him. I have under a heat lamp and wrapped in blanket.

Add SUGAR to the water to help perk him up. Poultridrench too if you have it.

Thank you for the all the quick advices and tips. Especially the last link with the disease information. Unfortunately, the chick just passed away. Thank you for the help and next time, if I encounter this, I will know what to do.

I'm sorry. That's a hard one to recover from. Depending on how big the defect was to begin with, it may not have been survivable no matter what you did.
