Empty nest?

As long as they earn their keep, either through working around the house or paying rent it's fine. Any kid that just wants to stay at home and have their parents in their business all the time has problems IMO. Of course some kids stay in the nest and save money so they can be well established when they get out. If we had a college within reasonable driving distance I would encourage my kids to stay at home while they go to school. More time studying and less time earning money although I would still expect help around the house. Both of my kids are paying their own way through college. The 5 younger ones will probably not go to college.

We will be sad when they are all gone and will probably continue to foster, till we can't anymore. Then it will be time to find Dr Krevorkian.

When DSD officially became 18 we celebrated, not cause DSD was 18, but because we no longer had to deal with her greedy mother in our wallet! When both families got together for her 18th birthday at pizzahut, they conveniently forgot to bring any money (or so they said), so we ended up paying for the whole thing. But that was ok, cause that was the last time her mother would get any money from us ever again! DSD is now graduating college this year and may even get into the nursing program, she's doing really well and realizes we were doing what was in her best interest... and that her mom is bascially a nut job! Now that she's out on her own, we still help her out with what we can and at least we know where the money's going and she's being responsible about it.

Sara, who never wanted to talk to her dad, came over last night for some cat food and their tractor. She always hated the chickens and goats and she was out there petting the goats and looking nostalgically at the chickens. WTH???? I wonder if they are out of food or what. My son is leaving on good terms, it was his choice. Sara - it was not her choice, and it was because she blatantly refused to lift a finger around here.

Funny how things change so fast.
