Hi all. I have 3 chickens left from my original flock. They are 4 years old and two of them are laying daily. My other girl (a Barred Rock named Big Mary) hasn’t laid since before winter.
Big Mary goes to the nesting box every other day, sits in there, sings egg songs, but leaves the nest empty. A few weeks ago she had a tiny fairy egg but that’s it.
Honestly, I don’t care if she isn’t laying. I just want to make sure there isn’t a potential medical problem. Is this something I should be concerned with? TIA

Hello 👋
How is her abdomen? Did she have abnormal looking eggs or abnormal egg laying behavior before she quit laying? Things like really watery albumin in her eggs, misshapen eggs, cracked and mended eggs? Behavior like going into the nest box for hours and not laying an egg on a relatively normal basis when she did lay? Behavior and signs like that before would all be a reason to worry about her pretending to lay now. They could point to internal laying. But if she had none of those signs and symptoms before, she may just be reaching an age where her hormones are getting wonky and she’s slowing down.
