OK...sorry, didn't realise you were in UK. I would have given a slightly different response in as much as you can in fact demand euthanasia from any UK vet, they have an obligation to provide care under the proviso that if it is an animal they are unfamiliar with, they inform you of such and YOU accept that they are working 'off the cuff'...but euthanasia is euthanasia, they can't really do it wrong!
My own vet told me about this recently when I had to have life-saving surgery done on my goat...I accepted her total lack of experience ands he told me she had no legal right or ability to refuse treatment. I live in Fairford, Glos...just 45 mins from you.
However, if you go down the CO2 route, use a standard 'stacker' storage box with a smaller one inside and then use the lid to top it all off.
