Charlie is our duck. 2 months old now and gaining all her feathers.
We now assume she is a her, as the beak is very yellow and the tail feathers show no sign of curling.
Charlie was hatched under extreme circumstances that left us little choice. Have her survive and become imprinted, or her to perish.

During the day she is left outside, but refuses to forage when alone (human company of course, other chickens are about but she fears them).

Charlie does understand how to forage, and loves to scrounge around for her favorite food, slugs!

I was wondering if anyone here might have some tips for encouraging charlie to become more independent?

Time! S/he will eventually become an adult.... Baby ducks always eventually separate from their mom too. A companion would help.

Okay thanks, guess it's the waiting game.
She seems very attached that's all.
