Entertainment ideas for the shut-ins?

Lots of space and lots of roosts.
Treats and toys are not going to override any crowding issues.
I have 3 poop boards and an extra roost and that offers plenty of 'places to be'.

Having some sheltered areas out in the run is important.
I also shovel out part of the run, more for access to keep roof cleared but provides walking around room for the birds and speeds snow melt season.

What does your coop and run look like?

Here's mine:

I agree with lots of space and roosts because no matter how many treats or anything that you do, it's not going to replace space. Having adequate space and roosts will not stop squabbling entirely, but it will prevent a lot of it especially if they are going to be in the coop.

Ok. Assuming that everyone going into winter has ALREADY built their coops.
Does anyone have ideas to shorten the winter blues for the girls?
Are you saying you haven't built the coop...or your coop is too small...or...???
Maybe post pics of your coop and run so we can advise better.

This is my 2nd winter with my 3 girls. This time around I added space to the run, it is now 8x8, added a couple roosting bars and covered the sides completely with clear plastic sheeting. Last year I didn't cover the sides and snow blew in which made everything kind of miserable.

I also hung one of those green wire treat baskets and put a treat block up.I lay fresh hay in the run and throw scratch and treats in it, they will scratch and pick around in it all day. Lastly I added a dresser drawer full of fresh dirt so they have a place to dust bath in. .

good ideas. Thanks!
I’ve got a lot of bare spots of dirt now... can I just toss hay or straw down on it?
Does it get moldy or anything?
