Hello all-
New to the forum; first post. Unfortunately I begin with bad news. My family purchased five chicks of various breeds 4 months ago. Everything has been going really well and we just love our birds. We live in Puyallup, WA and our yard is kind of set up like a mini farm. In the front we grow all sorts of berries, primarily blueberries. Well, I was doing some routine bed maintenance for the blueberries which includes laying down granulated sulfur to lower the ph. I sprinkled it all around and went to grab the hand till to turn it into the soil and I got a phone call. I was distracted. Apparently the flock came around from the backyard and walked through the beds. My wife came outside because she heard something and she found our prized buff brama dead. She was our favorite bird. I just wanted to share this info with the rest of you so you know to take extreme caution. The rest of the birds are doing fine which is weird but I'm thinking it's because the buff was such a voracious feeder she may have ingested more. Either way it took her down in ten minutes. The sulphur is a product called epsoma. It's common and sold at most big box stores. It's used for acid loving plants such as azaleas and Rhododendrons. I hope this info will prevent others from experiencing a loss. Take care

Sorry for your loss. That seems so fast to have affected her, and so tragic. I would have been tempted to open her crop to see if she ate the granules, or gotten a necropsy by the state vet. The sulfur apparently lowers the pH, which could have affected her. Thank you for posting this helpful information.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brahma :hugs Thank you for taking the time to share this with the rest of us!
