I have about 6 of my birds that are constantly flying over the fence. At first we kept putting them back in, but after awhile it got to be useless, so we just let them free range. They go into the horse pasture and roam around the back part of our yard. Fortunatley mine are soon going to be dinner, so we won't have to worry much longer.

Even my big fat hens can fly to the top of a 4 ft. fence.

Some of my 6 1/2 month old hens are flying out of a 6 1/2 ft. tall fence. You will have to either pen them up or make your fence taller if you have to keep them in your backyard.

4 ft. fences won't keep chickens in without netting or something on top.

Sorry,
Jean

As was written earlier. clip on wiing only to stop flight. Clip both wings and the will still fly. They are probably using their wings and feet to crawl up the fence. Hard habit to stop now.

I was thinking about putting a sock sweater on them that would restrict wing movement. like take a sock and cut out holes for the legs and the head and just slide it on.
