Hello everyone I am a new chicken owner I have 8 chickens a variety of breeds. My coop has a outdoor run with 6-foot fencing but I have five chickens that continuously fly out of the top of the Run how do I keep my chickens from escaping. Is there something I can do to put over the top of the run? Maybe run a bunch of lines of rope on the top so they can't fly out? I'm just looking for options because they are about to start laying eggs and I don't want them laying where I can't find them!! Lol

I use bird netting. It's available in most places that sell gardening supplies, as well as online. I can't speak for the long term durability yet, but mine has lased for several months with no signs of wear. Use some rope or wire across your run to help support it. It can be attached to the fencing and support ropes with zip ties. Here's one example...

Welcome! If your birds can get out, predators can get in! Netting works for chickens and raptors, with supports. Unless you are short, and don't have to worry about snow, some framing to raise the roof would be good too. My coop and run has been an ongoing project for years, with upgrades to improve safety and snow avoidance. Originally I had some framing and 2" chicken wire over the run, and it worked fine to keep the birds in and raptors out. Now it's got a real roof, and it's great! Mary

I also have bird wire over my run. The only thing I've found with it, is that if your in an area where fall means the leaves are coming down, you may have to use the leaf blower on it.

Welcome to BYC!
As others have indicated covering the run is the best solution,
how to do that depends on more info.
Knowing more about the size of your run would help,
as well as knowing your climate/location.
Would you post some pics and dimensions?
