Estes defect?

Most of my chickens I've gotten this spring have been from Orschln's.. who orders from estes. I was banding some of my (older) babies tonight and realized some of my Rhode Island Red babies are missing toe-nails on thier middle toe... They have the toes, just not the nail at the end. Does anyone know if this is a defect coming out of thier strain or just wierd that 2-3 of mine all had the same thing.

One of my Rhode Island Red hens from Ideal had no middle toenails. It never hurt her at all, never made a difference.
