Estimated Feed Rate

Quote:
Feed costs us around $12-13 a 50lb bag at a local feedstore for chickstarter and broiler.

That's $130 per 25, or $5.20 per bird. Thats fair, if you discount the time/costs involved in processing and storage.

We're in the process of building our first 10'X10' chicken tractor. We were planning on going in on some meaties with a friend, so I was just trying to get an estimation on how much feed we'll be buying. Thanks everyone.

The people you get the birds from can probably give you the figures, too. Maybe you should ask?

I'm not terribly worried about it. We are going to get them and they'll eat what they'll eat, I was just curious.

500lbs per 25 birds is exactly what I figure. Luckily, (at least at my mill,) that's the minimum order for the feed price cut. Buy in bulk, ground for you by the mill (not prebagged,) and the price will be about half of what you'd pay at TSC, and you'll get better feed.
