MONTHS ago I sold a bunch of chicks to what I thought was a very nice couple. I told them and I quote (in an email):
"
>> " I hope I did a good job on them all
being hens, and like I said if ANY turn out to be roosters bring them back and I'll give you a new chick(s) when I have
any, OR a hen that's around the same age of your chicks you have now (as long as I have any). I might...I'm hatching a lot.
"
That quote above is not edited at all taken right from my email back to them over 6 months ago. Yes, I promised them chicks or hens IF i had them available. I made sure to say that "as long as I have any".
well, I get an email from these people on the 3rd of august at first I had no idea who it was...but I read their email and replied. they asked me if they'd take an excess roo that they found in their flock...because it was illegal for them to have him and he was being kept in their basement.
I felt bad for them and said that yes i'd take him (btw they actually wanted me to babysit him which scared me babysitting someones bird that a predator could kill). Well, they didn't get back to me until the 11th. Before then i had assumed they found someone else to take him. well on august 7th I found out I was pregnant and decided to down size my birds. So on august 11th when they said that THAT day they would be going through my county and could drop him off i explained to them that i just found out I was pregnant a few days before, and could no longer take in this bird because my focus isn't on birds as much as it once was.
I got a nasty email back from this mans wife saying that when she bought chicks off of me, that she had a 3 months old, and that SHE did it. So basically saying if she can raise chicks and have a 3 month old i can take in their roo and be pregnant. I took a lot of offence to the statement as i found it rude. This is my first pregnancy, that was her third baby. I see a big difference SHe has had more experience. Anywho if that wasnt enough she said that I had AGREED to trade if they had any roos and hinting at me not keeping my agreement was wrong.
So I looked back up in my emails between her husband and I via emails and the above quote is exactly what I said. I explained to them that I haven't hatched out chicks like that for months,, i actually think they were the last hatch I did for people like that. I explained that i had no chicks for them, but that I'd take their roo but that i'd butcher him because I have no need for him here or want...but that i'd perfer that they find him a home because I didnt relaly want to butcher him if it wasnt necc. I also told them i had no chicks to trade.... but that i'd trade them 5 quail chicks i had available for him to make the trade.
and this is what i got back
"We don't really want to trade. We're more just worried about finding
> someone to take the rooster."
and i replied back:
"I hope you find him a good home then. He won't have a good one here."
I was being honest because he'd be butchered because roosters are hard to find homes for to begin with and I have a select few of young chickens i want to keep now that i knwo im pregnant and that's it.
well just a few minutes ago i get this email from them:
"A person is only as good as their word... so good luck in the future. No
need to respond. We'll find a way to deal with the rooster you gave us."
first off.... i offered to take him on trade of 5 quail chicks (all i had to offer them) and they didn't want to trade that that was my "word" was a trade NOT just to take their roo when they finnally decided they'd had him long enough and were worried they'd get in trouble with the law in their area.
But they didn't want me to kill him, they also wanted me to babysit him... um... no...i dont think so. Especially now that they are over dramatic about my "word" and also did a low blow by hinting that they did it with a 3 month old so i should be able to do it pregnant. I have no obligation to baby sit their roo. that was no promise of mine sure I said i could but they didnt get back to me for days AND i had no idea who they were. Then when i knew who they were and they insulted me after i said I couldnt take him in becuase of my pregnancy that was it for me.
If their last email was a threat that they will give me a bad name, good luck. I dont plan on hatching any more chicken chicks for people... its too much of a hassle and all customers want are hens leaving me with a ton of cockerels... (as I know how to vent sex but am not 100% accurate). I tried telling t hem they should be lucky they only got one roo instead of a bunch, because most local people who sell chicks sell ONLy straight run... i tried doing one better.
They waited soo long to try and do this trade, which really all they wanted from me was someone to watch their beloved roo while they look for a new home for Gosh knows how long. ANd my luck is they'd try to sue me if the roo was killed or got sick in my care..i dont think so.
*grumbles*
I haven't replied, but i sure wanted to, but i knew it would only just make me sound immature what i'd want to say to them. Sorry for the rambles and if htey make no sense... im just aggrivated. You'd thikn a mother wouldnt want to be so nasty to a future first time mother and make her so stressed out....
Shame on her.
