Ever had a cat that would overeat?

Sadly, I had to re-home my cat, I could brush her every day and she still lost tons of hair, one of my twins is allergic to cats, and her face would swell drastically, causing her breathing problems, but Callie was around 20lbs. Always eating, but she was happy.

I'm not saying that it is healthy for them to be so large, but I do feel, that after fixing them, they do gain a lot of weight for some reason.

I also have a MinPin that weighs 28 lbs. He does not eat that much, but has also been fixed.

Cats can train their humans (or beings as we call them). To the human mind, the "food dish is empty!" cry is similiar to a human baby's cry. It irritates our subconsious, so we fill the dish to shut them up. Makes sense to me.

Hi! I have a feral rescue (trapped as a kitten, but 5 yrs old now), that starts turning over things and/or tearing up stuff if his food bowl gets low.
He may have just eaten and have a full tummy, but heaven forbid the bowl ever be nearly empty. He doesn't 'meow', just starts destructive behavior. I *think* it might have been because he was abandoned by his mother very young (she was a feral as well).

If his bowl ever is empty , even just for a short time, he gorges after it's filled again --- then upchucks.

It's in my best interest to keep food available for him.
He also eats from the dogs bowls when they aren't looking.

I have not had an obese Siamese cat in my whole life even with my mother's Siamese cats.

I have a seal point Siamese that would have her food at all times in gravity fed feeder. She eats thru the day, a little at a time. When it was canned cat food, she would get half of a small can and the other half at supper time.

I love my Siamese cats, and want no other cat breed but the Siamese! I love the appleheads better than the wedge heads. My cat now is not a talker but my beloved Bambi was talkative and very vocal about her displeasures or talk about her day.

This is our Sam. He was a drop off, and is constantly whining for food. If hes not eating hes sleeping. But he is also the mellowest cat we have ever had. He weighs 22#!!

I have two that over eat too fast and puke. Luckily one lives outside. I know Barney & Arlo are related

Barney, doing what he does best; if hes not sleeping..he is eating. He usually looses a few pounds in the summer but is still a tank.

Arlo is wondering why Barney is in his chair. Its not the most flattering pic of Arlo's physic.

I leave small amounts of food out for them during they day and make sure their is a bit out before I go to bed. Its the best option for "free feeding" that I have found. If the bowls are empty at night, Arlo will eat & then puke in the morning.

Everette is a snacker. I wish the others were a bit more like that.

Oh, I can but it means not being able to walk freely in my house. Empty dish means KiKi will throw herself at my feet and meowwwwww like she's on her last breath.

I'd only feed her 2 x per day. It'll ultimately put too much strain on her heart.

I work at a school and have been around lots of neglected children where food is involved..and they, too, eat like it is their last meal, because quite frankly it is how the abuse has wired their brains...they are afraid of not having food later. I am sure she is going thru the same thing. Time to hang tough there, mommy. But God bless your siemese-owning-heart!

Dixiechick, that could very well be true.

Barney was a middle aged stray that was in the barn when we got married. Arlo was barely 4wks old when DH found him on the tire of his pickup when we were engaged. Arlo was meowing loudly and very hungry. When I asked the vet about Arlo's binging & purging, she said sometimes you just never get over the trauma of childhood.

Oh you would adore this wedgehead I'm sure. She claimed a sleeping spot on the bar between the kitchen and living room on her first day here. If you walk up to her there, she'll stand up on her hind legs and hold her front ones out for you to pick her up. When you do, she wraps her front legs around your neck in a hug. Head butts optional.
Even my DH has fallen under her spell. He's not big on cats, but you can't help but love this one. So mellow and loving.
I still get sad thinking about what she went thru when she was abandoned with her kittens. Wish I had given more thought to adopting one of the kittens too.
She's getting better. Just don't leave the loaf of bread out where she can find it.
