Not going to lie, it's cold here. (7 deg this morning). The past 4 nights I have had ONE duck refusing to go in the hut at night. She stays in the tree line in brush. Comes out in the morning- happy as a clam. Quacks, greets/eats. Same ol' girl. It bothers me she stays in the tree line at night and not with others. I don't want her sick, killed or frozen. I just couldn't figure it out. At 2am this morning I sat straight up in bed and thought EGGGGGGGGGGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! CHECK FOR A NEST OF EGGS!!!! Needless to say I didn't sleep the rest of the night. It was too dark this morning when I had to let the others out and the tree line is THICK so I will be checking at lunch today when I go home. Such an idiot moment!! Such an obvious thing to check and I totally missed it. Just dumb.

My heart BROKE having to take 10 eggs away from her...TEN. 💔

She had a beautiful little nest made in tall grass and snow. The eggs were VERY warm and you could smell them. Maybe next spring girlie girl.

First pic you can just barely see her little body in all the grass. Second pic is the obvious stash after I politely had her move. 💔

I have them all the time. Last night I made my Brother take an IQ test with me and I scored a point higher than him and so when we were cleaning up dinner (he was doing dishes while I put all the food away) I was jokingly bragging that I'm smarter and later I realized I put a tupperware full of spaghetti in a random drawer where we keep the cups 😭 . I'll never live that down lol

Hi.

God... I was in need of a good laugh!
Thank you for that!

Making a nest at 7 °F?
...Your girl is a warrior...

But I would not have let her sit on the eggs with this cold, so you did a good thing by removing the eggs!

We have had a long, warm fall. Spoiled some might say. The past week it all went down hill.

I was kind of shocked she did that. She is the "party girl" of the 5 girls and 1 boy. Loud, proud and always drunk on mealworms. Never seemed interested in making a nest ALL year. She proved me SO wrong. :idunno
