Ever raised meat pigs?

We got really lucky and found these hampshire/yorkshire mixes about a week ago.

They are freshly weaned so I've been mixing their grower feed with whole kernel corn that's been soaked for at least 2 days, and powdered calf milk to increase their protien and make everything nice and soft.

We are going to be building a 32'x16' reinforced hog pen for them over the next few weeks and will be posting pictures of the process.

Anybody with questions or answers about raising pigs feel free to add to the chat, this is a place to share experiences and knowledge ❤️

This is them the day I got them.

This is one week after having them.

When I was a kid, my family raised hogs for sale and meat. Then years later my son raised one every year for local youth fair. It was different type of feeding. If you haven't castrated any boars you may have in the bunch, I would do it now before they get to much bigger. The bigger they are the harder it is to hold them.

Thanks for the advice! I will be keeping one for breeding but you're right. Better do it this week then

Not really, but even if I did I’m not sure I could! Then again I remember how our potbelly pig was(slightly insane and an escape artist).
We usually treat our breeders like pets, but everyone else gets named after food so we don't get too attached lol

The 2 breeders I'm keeping are named Chicharone and Hammy. The others are Pork Chop, Porky, BB, and Q
