That's very interesting. I would say that one should be used for table, unless you want to do a little test breeding to see if it is a genetic trait or a congenital defect. Congenital defects are not genetic, and so do not pass down. If congenital, then offspring would not be affected. If genetic, you should be able to figure a cross that leads to offspring that are also affected - sibling or back to parent.
