Every Duck person should at least put what state they live in so it helps I think.

You can still all stay way anonymous if you like and we all kind of know what conditions you have to deal with when trying to answer questions. Just my opinion

I always figure that if they can't indicate where they are when they have a question where the answer is affected by their location that they don't really want an answer., They are just talking to hear themselves talk.

In fact, when they ask a question that has already been asked and answered 5 times in that same day, they don't really want an answer, they just want some attention focused on themselves.

Yep probably right. Im asking for too much Info I guess. Too many vague questions of late. And you dont know if they live above you or below me.

Thanks really though, it made alot sense the way you explained it.

I must add that while I agree about area, it would take much less time than saying, "depending on where you are"......... I disagree about the similar posts.

There are times that people ask very similar questions in very close spaces of time but searching BYC for a duck question can be a beast and if you aren't used to navigating it, it can be a bit user unfriendly.

I think that we duck folk should have a larger forum than just ducks. Hatching, breeds, housing should be under their own heading as they are different for ducks than chickens.

Sadly, I will not be a duck person for much longer since we are moving and I have to sell all my scovies.

I hope to be a duck person again in the near future.

I have to agree with jdywntr. It is not always clear from post titles that the same question is being asked in close proximity. Also, not everyone is able to sit down and read ALL of the recent topics. Some people come specifically to ask a question and don't know how to navigate the forum to determine if the question has been answered recently already. In addition, many people probably just don't think about how important location can be. I don't think anyone is posting a question where location (at least state) is relevant and intentionally hiding their location to be mysterious. DestinDuck, you have a good idea on posting location and I agree with you. I just don't think we should be so negative about people who don't think to include some information up front. Most of us are on here to learn or help to learn and knowing what information is relevant is part of learning.

Please don't misunderstand, I do not mean to seem short, but it bothers me when people are so quick to criticize others for their questions. Everyone on this forum is at a different level with regards to knowledge of poultry and electronics. That is one of the things that makes this site fabulous and helpful. We are all free to answer or not answer posts. But we should not criticize people because they are at a different level. If you don't feel like answering the same question every time, maybe someone else will be able to answer it.

Its really not all that big a deal. I mainly just like to know the state people are in as most would. I try never to criticize anyone on here. I am very aware of the different levels and ages that can be found on BYC. I even love seeing same old post sometimes because there may be twists on the answers. Im truely honored to be an educator. It did make me a little more responsible feeling with my answers. I still cut up a little though. Its my nature. But when people need real help I am serious and try to do my best.

I like to know where folks are from also, it helps me better able to help with a problem whether it may be to do with the weather etc. we live in a great big world and have such extremes in climate and such it always helps to know the basic in order to help the best we can.

Agreed. After reading many tips that just don't apply to me due to my climate I got to thinking about this and added my state to my info awhile back. What works for me and my ducks is totally different from many as I have wet warm winters with no snow but lots of rain, and cool summers. Too many climates and the tips for one very well might not work for another. Dessert versus wet and rainy climates, or warm winters versus freezing bitter cold, or hot dry summers versus mild cool summers, the list goes on.
