Just sharing a quote from the gentleman who sold us our mobile coop & laying hens. We got the mobile cuz it's winterized and our fixed coop looked like a daunting task to winterize. We keep expanding our run. I'd love to let our chicks & hens range freely, but we've yet to work out an agreement with our cat. Plus I want to guard our garden and just feed them what I want, rather them taking what I want. So opening it away from the garden into the backyard is slowly becoming an option. There's an obvious need for us to grow more trees, as they, like us, prefer shade, generally.

In the top pic is the mobile coop in background. In foreground is our main compost pile we just opened up their run to include. 2nd pic is taken from the backyard side. The rooftop you can just see on left is the well house and the run extends down there. The bottom pic is inside the coop where we're starting to deepen their litter (look up "deep litter"). On left mid just out of view is their roosts. We got the chicks back in June and the hens in early July. It's a lot of fun, so we're trying to bring joy back around to their lives.
