Well for those in Northern Michigan, the Alpena TSC got their first shipment in.

I had my wife with me so, this is the end result.

They had the ducks marked just as straight run. I am assuming they are either rouen or mallard.

The chicks are black australorp.

Well she is in town by herself so I may end up with more. This really puts a kink in the plans. I have 15 more chicks coming from Cackle in May. So now I need two brooders.

IS mixing the ducks and chickens OK? Just wondering b/c I got my chicks from TSC earlier today and they expect their ducks this evening so.......can I mix them safely??

Join the club. I have three brooders right now. One for chicks, one for ducks and geese, one for 2 turkey poults and 1 chick that was getting picked on. I don't mix my ducks and geese with my chicks. They aren't supposed to have medicated feed since they will eat too much and o.d. The dicks and geese are way messier than the chicks too. Probably have a fourth one going soon if I get my way!!

They will be ok together for a few days but the ducks are really messy and will need their own brooder. But seeing as I wasnt expecting any babies this month I had to hurry up and build the brooder and put them together.

Ihave 21 in the bathroom brooder and just put out 12 in the new coop and the old coop is a hatchin with feathered leg cochins/
and i am wating for 4 buff orp. and 3 copper marens hatching eggs.

Yeah that's what happened here too. Wasn't planning on ducks, wanted geese, ducks were in geese weren't, so we have both!!

Then the turkeys were soooo cute and we had this one all by himself since the others were picking on him, so I had to get them to keep him company!!! It just keeps going on and on and on.....

But I'm loving every minute of it!!!
