Okay, so my mom came home with a ton of stuff from WA. She gave be a big bin, to let the ducklings bathe in. The only problem is, it stinks of smoking smell. There are little black crumb like things all over it. I put it in the tub and washed it for maybe 30 minutes, and I don't really see any black things but it still smells. I need to know, will the smell kill/hurt them? What will happen if they get a black thing digested???

Lastly, do you think I should stop washing it (I'm wasting all my Dove!

), and just get a new container???

Right now it's soaking in the tub, with Dove and water in it. (I plan on washing out ALL the soap before use)

Will the smoke harm them, or is it just me that's going to be bothered by it???

I would hit it with some diluted bleach ( about 1 part bleach to 20 parts water, no soap) leave in contact for at least 10 minutes but not overnight or to long. It will kill any bacteria that might be there and will probably kill the smell too. Rinse well and if the chlorine smell is too strong to suit you leave it where the sun will hit it, One day of light will usually kill the chlorine smell. with no ideal of what the 'black things' are, but the chlorine will kill black mold if that is what it is.

Hate the stench of smoke. Try Oxyclean, but I think the bleach will do the trick. I don't think the smell will harm them.
