Hello BYC,

I have been working on a project to create an excel spreadsheet that easily tracks incubation and things like % weight loss per week and fertility.

If there are any excel nerds out there like me that have done similar projects it would be great to collaborate and share some ideas.

I would love to share the project with others that want to make tracking of their hatches easier. My spreadsheet is currently set up for hatching ducks (28 days) but I plan to modify it for chicks as well.

What kind of information do you guys like to keep track of in your incubation records?

Samuel

I track my hatches in a rite-in-the-rain hard cover book. I always keep a start date, lockdown date, and expected hatch date, number of eggs set, number of viable eggs at lockdown, number of eggs that hatched, and a description of what type and origin of the eggs.

You could go into more detail by tracking how many were early quitters verses non-fertiles. You could also add a column that calculates your hatch rate in a percentage.

I just started tracking my egg weight loss to verify proper humidity settings but that would be a good addition to a spreadsheet, possibly having it's own page.

@Kiki has a very nice spreadsheet for tracking quail hatching...

That is awesome. Currently I am only tracking weight loss, fertility, and percentage hatched. I haven't gone into detail with reasons they didn't hatch but that would be a great addition.

I tried to design my spreadsheet to be easy to use for anyone but I am not sure if it is super user friendly or not.

If anyone would like to share what spreadsheets they use or if they want to see mine I would be happy to share!

Oh that is cool. She tracks all hatches over time. I would like to do one like that too.

The spreadsheet I have been using is for individual hatches.

Essentially all you have to do is add the start date, how many eggs set, and the weight of each egg each week. Then it will automatically calculate the % weight loss.

It is probably overkill for actual statistic keeping but I find it fun to think about all the details.

Have a look at my sheet here. You probably have to download it for all the formulas to work correctly.
